Banana an Amazing fruit!

July 1, 2008

This is interesting. After reading this, you’ll never look at a banana in the same way again.

banana A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression ‘going bananas’ is from the effects of bananas on the brain.  Read on:

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

Bananas contain three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes.

But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

banana Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills – eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

banana Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work  leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a ‘cooling’ fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking & Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body’s water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be re balanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, ‘A banana a day keeps the doctor away!’

Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time!

Last but the most important – want a quick shine on our shoes? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe… polish with dry cloth.

Indian Rail eTicket Cancellation

June 19, 2008

In 2007 India has more than 42 million Internet user and the number is increasing day by day. Based on the Internet portal business success Indian railway has also come up the portal www.irctc.co.in for booking tickets online. No doubt this is a good initiative by railway department but most of the times the portal remains down & its very pathetic to book the tickets on this portal.

Recently , I came across one more biggest drawback of this portal. Do you know how to cancel the eticket and when to cancel? If no I will tell you.

Canceling the eticket looks simple that go to portal select the ticket & click on cancel but what if the chart has been prepared? As per the Indian railway department if chart has been prepared once then you can not cancel the eticket even if you don’t travel you will not get a single penny returned. Recently my relatives went to JK tour and they have to caught the train from Jammu to Delhi at around 11.15am. They reached the station at morning 9.30am there they came to know that the train is late by some 6 hours as they have to caught the train from Delhi to Bangalore next day morning so they can’t wait for the train which is been late. So they some how manage to get the tickets in next train. In mean they thought of canceling the old eticket of Jammu to Delhi, but when they tried to cancel the eticket .. the portal have given the message “The Chart has been prepared for this ticket and you can’t cancel this ticket now.” then they have enquired at the Jammu station, can we cancel the eticket here as the train is late by approximate 24 hours. At station they came to know that eticket can be canceled only using the portal.

So in future if you try to cancel the eticket and get this message don’t get surprised as this the Indian railway policy and we the passengers will be the only losers.

Not only this if you compare the service charges we have to pay while booking and canceling the eticket is huge.

This is just to inform you about this if you feel that by writing against this we can do something for better service please write your comments here so that if by change some railway authority read this they will come to know about the problems faced by us.

What makes companies as great place to work?

May 21, 2008

We always see articles, surveys and reports from various market research companies about the great places to work, rating, ranking etc.

Is really? the following mentioned common points take them to top position:

  1. Flexi Timing
  2. Training
  3. Individual Career Growth
  4. Corporate Social Responsibility

What I personally feel is all the above mentioned are secondary items when money comes. For example “Say an employee of the top rated company has been offered more than 50% salary hike by some non rated company i.e. workplace, how many of you would like say that his/her chances are below 25% to move to new place? In other words I would say his/her chances of moving to non rated company is more than 80%.”

I feel that as far as employee is happy with the employer, he/she will say my workplace is the best place to work whether its a MNC or startup. So at the end what matters is employee frame of mind at the time of survey.

I would be happy, if you can share your thoughts on the same.

Royalty Free Images

May 16, 2008

Its truly said by some one “One graphical presentation is equivalent to 1000 words“.

You must have noticed, if somebody has explained you any concept with the help of pictures you will remember it for longer time & even understood it easily.

Today, all the corporate’s want to have some supporting pictures in their presentations.  But the fact is not all the corporate’s are good in drawings so that they can prepare the exact picture how they want. I am also involved in preparing the presentations for my company where I need to include various images. You can find various images on Internet but their is a restriction for the usage for particular images. Here I am trying to provide some links where you can find Royalty Free Images which one can use any where any time.

If you know such more sites, please share with us.

Offline Blog Editor

May 15, 2008

Some time back I came to know about Windows Live Writer – the offline editor for blogging. This is too good tool. We can write the posts offline any time and most important is the user interface which is very good. Normally its very difficult for me to do formatting of posts in WordPress and Blogger editors.

I would suggest all the blogger’s to use this tool from Microsoft. While writing this post using Live Writer I am feeling like using the MS Word.

Incase you know any other such tools, please share with me.

80:20?

May 9, 2008

What is this 80:20 ?

Almost all working in corporate world must have heard about this. but still today no body is serious about this and day by day this ratio is increasing.

80:20 means it is a ratio of non working employee vs working employee. In almost all the offices in world only 20% of employee do work and 80% enjoys. Today with the new work culture, I feel this ratio is increasing as most of the employees don’t want to work. They just want big money for small work.

I seen many such cases and they are so lucky that even they get the places like this.
